EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company produces a full line of high-floor as well as low-floor all-electric heavy-duty and medium-duty vehicles. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their flagship vehicle, and can be adapted to meet a variety of applications. The platform's design is based on a clear paper that allows for optimal placement of the battery pack and a lower center of gravity. This results in better payload/range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The class 4 refrigerated truck's one wall structure in the interior and higher insulation levels compared to traditional trucks enable seamless sanitation, better temperature control and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior cargo capacity and an industry leading payload to range ratio for zero-emission goods and passenger transportation.
GreenPower has joined forces with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system, which will allow fleets to quickly change to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star can also be wirelessly charging up to 75 kW.
We were able to test drive the EV9 on a local highway for several hours and found it to be simple to drive and comfortable to drive over long distances. The ride is smooth over bumps and ruts, and the EV9 does a great job of suppressing the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. The acceleration of the vehicle is astonishingly fast, and it comes with adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by lifting off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a wide range and can be recharged within three hours or less at home, or by using any commercial charger. Drivers have the option of choosing between two modes of operation that include eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on torque and cruise control while the sport mode maximizes speed and handling. Both modes are fun to drive, and offer a unique experience for those who have never experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
GreenPower provides a variety of other EVs, including a multipurpose all-electric minibus dubbed the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, transit or micro-transit vanpool, bus or paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower produces about 10 EV Star busses a month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their older diesel vehicles fleet with 100 all-electric cars. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demand of the Biden Administration which wants to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be Altoona-tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA compliant. This means they'll be eligible for federal transit assistance grants. Keep an eye on us when we follow the AV Star on its demonstration tour later this year. We will share more details on this amazing electric vehicle!
